Our solution involves not only
the bridge, but also the nearby areas. Situated at a point where the roads cross, we consider
it a point of union and we wanted to find a solution that expresses it, but
without removing the existent metallic structure.
From the site plan we also noticed that the bridge is located in the middle of
two parks and it is actually the element that separates them, so with regard to
this, our solution was to unite the parks and create a continuous linear one.
Our next doubt was that because
of the length, the park would be a bit boring and it won't attract people so we had the idea of creating an interactive
park, a complex one, full of different activities in different points.
We tried to recreate a path
through the park, giving details through sections , showing the interventions
we propose for different parts of the park: starting with an information point,
continuing with an open-air cinema, a partial closed space to get away from the
noisy city - the green tunnel, the reading areas with open air bookshelves , closed
playgrounds for children, running tracks and exhibition spots . All together we
wanted to develop a new park concept , the culture line.
For the bridge renewal we
proposed a cafeteria where besides having a drink one can also take a book and
read. We placed inside the bridge a box made of glass which is two levels high , the actual cafeteria , and the explanation
for choosing these materials is our will to keep the metal structure of the
bridge and integrate the new function.
One of the cafeteria's walls is made entirely as a bookshelf
and next to it it's a wall that has attached
a closed waterfall which has the purpose of combating noise. The ground
floor of the cafeteria offers places to sit down and read books while on the
first floor of the cafeteria the bar can be found and also other tables and
seats .
During summer the cafeteria can extend, it has its own terraces that
covers the whole surface of the bridge.
The second smaller bridge , we used it as a passage to the
other side of the bridge , so that one cannot be obliged to pass through the
cafeteria to get there, and we added
vegetation in order to keep away the noises from the trains that pass
near there.
During night the glass box is entirely illuminated in such way that the transparency still
remains and the metallic structure of the bridge is even more pointed out . By
changing the color of the bridge and
with all the interventions proposed we wanted to bring to life this dull place and to attract all
types of people of all ages and also to point out the importance of developing as a person by reading and
encouraging people to create works of art.
